Denise Saiz

My name is Denise Saiz and I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, immersed in diverse landscape of languages and cultures. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art from the University of New Mexico, and moved to Denver in 1988 with my husband. After working in picture framing, headwear design and manufacturing, and talc mining and exports, I stayed home for nine years to raise my two children who are now 14 and 11. After enjoying volunteer work in my own children's classrooms for several years, I decided to go back to school in 2005 to obtain my elementary teaching certificate from the University of Colorado Denver, and I am in my second year of teaching at Goldrick. I taught first grade in 2006-2007, and currently teach reading as a Title I teacher for grades K-5. I am also working on my master's degree in Bilingual and ESL Education. I have discovered that learning to read is a tremendously complex process and each student has individual needs concerning reading instruction. I love working with the diverse population of students at Goldrick and the faculty and staff is amazing! My passion has become helping kids enjoy learning and to give them the tools and strategies needed for a lifetime of reading.
